Week 5 - Involvement in the Development of the SAFA Module

During the fifth week of my practicum, a portion of my responsibilities extended beyond the TVETMARA Jasin campus due to my involvement as one of the developers of the SAFA Module for the NADI TVET programme. This opportunity allowed me to contribute to the development of educational resources while gaining valuable experience in curriculum planning and module design. My involvement required collaboration with fellow educators and subject matter experts to ensure that the module content was relevant, comprehensive, and aligned with the programme's intended learning outcomes.

This experience provided me with greater exposure to educational development initiatives beyond my regular teaching duties and enhanced my understanding of the processes involved in producing effective learning materials. It also strengthened my skills in teamwork, communication, critical thinking, and instructional design, all of which are essential for professional growth as an educator.

Prior to my involvement in the SAFA Module development programme, I ensured that my core responsibilities as a lecturer were completed and properly managed. As I was unable to attend all of my scheduled classes during Week 5 due to my involvement in the development of the SAFA Module for the NADI TVET programme, I designated this week as the period for conducting Assessment 1 for my students.

For the classes that I was able to attend, the assessment tasks were explained and administered directly during the teaching and learning sessions. This allowed me to provide clear instructions, address students' questions, and ensure that they fully understood the assessment requirements.

For classes that I was unable to attend because of my commitment to the programme, I utilised alternative teaching and communication methods to ensure continuity of learning. The assessment instructions and relevant materials were uploaded to each class's Padlet platform, while detailed explanations and guidance were delivered through instructional videos shared via the respective class WhatsApp groups. This approach ensured that students remained informed and were able to complete their assessments despite my physical absence from the classroom.

Through this experience, I gained valuable insight into the importance of flexibility and adaptability in teaching. The effective use of digital learning platforms enabled me to maintain student engagement and support learning continuity while fulfilling professional responsibilities beyond the institution. It also reinforced the significance of integrating technology into educational practices to ensure that learning can continue effectively regardless of time and location constraints.
