This week marked the beginning of a new chapter in my professional journey as a teaching practicum student at a university. Balancing full-time employment while undertaking a practicum presents a unique and demanding challenge, requiring effective time management, commitment, and perseverance throughout the learning process.
One particularly interesting aspect of this practicum period is that it coincides with the admission of new students, allowing me to experience a fresh beginning alongside them. As they embark on their educational journey, I too begin a new phase of professional development as a practicum student.
A memorable highlight of this first week was observing and participating in the orientation and initial activities for the new student intake at TVET MARA Jasin. The experience provided valuable insights into the institution's academic environment, student culture, and educational practices. It also offered me an opportunity to reflect on my role as an aspiring educator while adapting to a new learning and working environment.
Overall, the first week has been both exciting and meaningful. It has laid a strong foundation for my practicum journey and has motivated me to embrace future challenges with a positive attitude, professionalism, and a continuous desire for personal and professional growth.

The first week began at a demanding pace, with the opening day occupied by a series of activities and commitments. By the end of the day, I realised that succeeding throughout the programme would require not only physical endurance but also mental resilience. The responsibilities of the organising committee did not end after the welcoming session; rather, they continued as we worked collectively to ensure the smooth implementation of subsequent programmes.
On the following day, I was appointed as the Person in Charge (PIC) for the Tahsinul Quran and Ujian Fardhu Ain session. This appointment presented a valuable opportunity to take on greater responsibility and contribute more directly to the success of the programme. Through this experience, I gained practical exposure to event management, leadership, and coordination while ensuring that participants were able to benefit from the session in a meaningful way.
Reflecting on this experience, I found that the challenges I encountered contributed significantly to my personal and professional growth. The responsibility entrusted to me encouraged me to become more organised, proactive, and confident in carrying out my duties as both an educator and a practicum student.
Following four demanding days dedicated to student orientation activities, the final day of the week allowed me to resume my responsibilities as a lecturer and Head of the Islamic Education Unit at TVET MARA Jasin under the Department of General Studies. As preparations for the new academic semester drew closer, it was essential to conduct a final review of the teaching and learning schedule to ensure that all academic activities were properly planned and aligned with the institutional requirements.
TVET MARA Jasin implements its own structured curriculum system, which requires careful academic planning and coordination. The academic calendar consists of 19 weeks of teaching and learning sessions, followed by a designated Student Activities Week, revision week, and the final examination period for the relevant subjects. Therefore, considerable attention was given to ensuring that lesson plans, assessments, and course schedules were organised effectively to meet the expected learning outcomes.
This responsibility provided me with valuable insight into the academic management process within a TVET institution. Beyond classroom teaching, I came to appreciate the importance of curriculum planning, scheduling, and administrative preparation in supporting a smooth and effective learning experience for students. Reflecting on this experience, I realised that successful educational practice requires not only effective teaching skills but also strong organisational and managerial competencies.
